Blogger or WordPress: Which is better to create your Blog?
We have so many platforms for websites that it is sometimes difficult to opt for one.
And there isn’t a better one and a worse one, because they all fulfill the functionalities for which we need them: to help give us visibility in one way or another.
Some are more complex with which we can create more professional websites, and simpler ones, to start in the world of blogging without having technical knowledge and without making any investment.
The choice will depend on the objective you want to achieve.
Therefore, I want to get you out of doubt and make a comparison between two well-known blog creators in the digital world to guide you in which one to use: Blogger or WordPress.
We will also see how both differ and what advantages they can bring you in your day today.
Oh, and I will tell you about my personal experience with my childhood blog (don’t miss this, which is great lol).
Blogger VS WordPress
Before I start comparing Blogger and WordPress, as well as their advantages and differences, I want to explain what each one is.
Blogger is a free platform for the creation of a blog and content management.
This tool tries to give life to your blog in a very simple platform to use, with which you will only have to register, choose your domain name (which will be of the “name.blogspot.com” style), choose the template and start writing your articles.
Blogger is related to what was Blogspot, the provider of free domain services, and Google, so it is good to start taking the first steps in blogging.
On the other hand, in WordPress, you have two options: wordpress.org and wordpress.com.
WordPress is one of the most used free CMS and with a large community that serves to manage websites. I will explain its two variants:
WordPress.com: Platform that launches a WordPress site very easily and without knowing code. You create your account, choose your template and you can start publishing your articles on the blog. WordPress.org: In this version, the tool goes further. It is a content manager in which you can modify every one of the internal files and style sheets. With this, we will install the necessary plugins and give life to a website in a professional way.
Now that you know what we are talking about, I’m going to make a comparison between Blogger and WordPress.org, so you can see which of the two is the clear winner.
Ease of use of Blogger VS WordPress
When you log in to Blogger.com right away, it gives you the option to create your web page with default templates.
Once you have chosen the design and the domain name (testsarticulopost.blogspot.com) we can start writing and creating our blog.
If we go to ” Entries “, we have the option to write the contents and publish them as you see in the following image.
The design of the main page is very basic and we can customize it, but we will always be in a very limited environment.
Even so, we will see this in the next point.
Also, in its free version, we have the signature of “With the technology of Blogger” in the Footer and the standard subdomain (name.blogspot.com), not our own as could be that of this website (begoromero.com).
As for the Entries, both the WordPress and blogger editor are very similar, in the Word style, so writing your articles will not be a problem in either of the two options.
WordPress.org is a more complete content manager and in which you can customize everything you want.
Your desktop is simple, dividing between the main sections such as Entries, Media and Pages; and others for some plugins that we have included on the web, as in the case of the Elementor and Yoast SEO image.
As I told you in the previous section of the Blogger platform, WordPress also has a very similar article editor for the blog, although I have to tell you that this is the Classic Editor.
The classic WordPress editor is like the one you see in the following image, similar to the one we have seen in the previous point.WordPress recently released a company-owned builder to layout articles and other pages on the website. This constructor is called ” Gutenberg “, and it works by blocks of content, instead of being an old-fashioned Word document.
As you know, there is also WordPress.com, very similar to Blogger and it will be super simple for you to start writing your articles. Even though they are so similar, I wanted to make a comparison with .org, which has more differences with Blogger.
Design and customization
To personalize the Blogger platform we are very limited to its templates and the elements that we can add, so in this aspect, it loses all the points in front of other content managers.
Here I show you an example of a fairly advanced website and with many articles created with this tool.
A design made with WordPress.org can be as you want and imagine it.
You just have to have a little style and knowledge of the tool to have the web that you have in your head embodied in a domain.
Another important aspect that WordPress has is that you can include the plugins you need for any functionality, being very flexible when it comes to getting the results you are looking for (Woocommerce for online stores, LearnPress for course platforms, etc.).
This is an example of a web design that I made for a furniture store, which was custom customized all in a graphic design tool, without a standard template that told me where to put each element, and then developed in WordPress.
